Kinross, Scotland Where were you when a cartoon band ruled the charts? 🍬
The Archies were animated—but Sugar, Sugar was very real, spending eight weeks at UK Number 1 in 1969.
The Archies were a band from the animated US television series The Archie Show—but their chart success was anything but make-believe. “Sugar, Sugar” reached UK Number 1 in 1969 and stayed there for eight weeks. 🍬
The programme ran for just 17 episodes; the song remained on the UK chart for 26 weeks. One cartoon band, one enormous earworm.
