Teaching began in St Andrews in 1410, and the University was formally constituted by a papal bull in 1413. That makes St Andrews Scotland’s first university—and the third oldest in the English-speaking world.
More than six centuries later, its historic buildings remain part of everyday life in the town. The photograph shows St Salvator’s Quad.
