Local Fact of the Day: the mill powered by the Tay 🧵
Built in 1786, Stanley Mills harnessed the River Tay to make textiles for around 200 years.

Stanley Mills was built in 1786 at a hairpin bend in the River Tay, where the rushing water could power its machinery. The cotton mill went on producing textiles for around 200 years and is one of Scotland’s best-preserved relics of the Industrial Revolution.
Historic Environment Scotland says it is the best-preserved mill in which pioneering inventor Richard Arkwright had direct involvement.
