Local Fact of the Day: Kinross House’s royal sightline 👑
Kinross House and its garden were deliberately aligned with Lochleven Castle—a landscape designed to make a political statement.

Restore • Revive • Renew
When Sir William Bruce built Kinross House and its garden in the 1680s, the grand central view was no accident. Historic Environment Scotland says the house and grounds were deliberately aligned with Lochleven Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots had been imprisoned and escaped.
The sightline was a lasting statement of Bruce’s allegiance to the Stuart royal family—history written into the landscape itself.
