Local Fact of the Day: the palace that was never royal 👑
Culross Palace was built for a wealthy merchant—not a monarch—and only gained its grand name centuries later.

Culross Palace looks every inch a royal residence, but no king or queen ever lived there. It was built for wealthy merchant Sir George Bruce, with its west block dating from 1597 and its north wing from 1611.
The National Trust for Scotland says the name “Palace” did not appear until the 19th century, probably through confusion with “Palatial House” in the property deeds. James VI did visit—but only as Sir George’s guest. 👑
