Near St Andrews, an innocent-looking farmhouse concealed RAF Troywood: a Cold War command bunker built by the RAF in 1953.
The complex sits around 100 feet underground and covers 24,000 square feet, with plotting rooms, dormitories, a broadcasting studio and command facilities. It later became a regional government headquarters before being decommissioned in 1993 and opening to visitors in 1994.
