Local Fact of the Day: the Perthshire castle with its own army 🎖️
Blair Castle is home to the Atholl Highlanders—Europe’s only remaining private army.

Restore • Revive • Renew
The Atholl Highlanders, based at Blair Castle, are Europe’s only remaining private army. They are not part of the British Army: this ceremonial regiment serves as the Duke of Atholl’s personal bodyguard.
The unit was raised as a private regiment in 1839 and later mounted guard when Queen Victoria stayed at the castle in 1844. Today, membership is still by the Duke’s invitation and the Highlanders continue their annual parade at Blair Castle.
