The University of St Andrews was formally constituted by papal bull in 1413, making it Scotlandās oldest university. š
At its medieval heart is St Salvatorās. Bishop James Kennedy founded the College of the Holy Saviour in 1450, with both educational and missionary roles. Its chapel faced out towards the town rather than into the courtyardāa reminder that the college was intended to serve the wider community as well as its scholars.
More than five and a half centuries later, St Salvatorās Quad remains one of St Andrewsā most recognisable historic spaces.
