In 1582, the young James VI was held at Huntingtower during the dramatic Ruthven Raid.

Huntingtower Castle near Perth once stood at the centre of a royal kidnapping. 👑
In 1582, during the Ruthven Raid, the 1st Earl of Gowrie held the young King James VI against his will at what was then called the Place of Ruthven. Historic Environment Scotland says the king remained a prisoner for ten months.
The castle is unusual in another way: it began as two substantial tower houses standing only about three metres apart, later joined to look like one building.
