More than a garage to us
Derek, you are an absolute legend.
There are thank-yous you say in passing. Then there are the ones you can never quite say loudly enough. This is one of those.
Derek McGregor, George, Jordan and everyone at Smith Street Motors: you have helped save mine and Arlene’s business on so many occasions. We do not say that lightly. Through the years of building Gutters2glory, you have helped keep us on the road, earning a living and turning up for the people who rely on us.
If you are self-employed, you will understand. When your work van stops, your income can stop with it. The bills do not. The customers are waiting. The pressure builds. Having someone you trust at the other end of the phone can make all the difference.
“Derek, you are an absolute legend. You have kept us going. From me and Arlene, thank you — more than words can properly say.”
— Steve, Gutters2glory Ltd
This is our personal thank-you, and our chance to give something back: a proper shout-out to a local team whose skill, kindness and hard work deserve to be recognised.
The award that started it all
Our first muffins went to the right people.
Smith Street Motors were the inaugural winners of our Muffin of the Week award. Before the idea grew, before the next certificate and the next bag of treats, there were these three.
Jordan on the left. George in the middle. Derek on the right. Real people, in their own workshop, with a very well-earned thank-you. That photograph says more than a shiny advert ever could.
Our Local Heroes collection starts with them for the same reason. They have made a real difference to our lives. It felt only right that they should be number one.
Jordan
One of the familiar faces behind the workshop doors, and a valued part of the team we are proud to call our friends.
George
A brilliant mechanical mind, with a particular love of motorbikes. Need a motorcycle MOT? George and the team are well worth a call.
Derek
A friend who understands what running a small business really takes. When we have needed help, Derek has been there. An absolute legend.
Small businesses. Big hearts.
Running your own business brings trials and tribulations that are hard to explain until you have lived them. There are long days, unexpected problems and the delicate art of keeping everybody happy.
As they say in Yorkshire, “There’s nowt so queer as folk.” And then there is that old favourite: the customer is always right… even when they are not! A bit of patience, a bit of humour and good people around you go a long way.
That is what we appreciate about this team. The mechanical work matters enormously, but so does the human side. Knowing you are dealing with people who care is priceless.
From us, and with a massive shout-out on behalf of our local community: thank you, Smith Street Motors. If you are looking for a garage in Kinross, these are the people we are proud to recommend to our friends, neighbours and customers across Perth, Kinross and Fife.
