From field to fragrance
At Tarhill Farm near Kinross, Scottish Lavender Oils grows, harvests and distils lavender. Rory and Marina Irwin describe a small family business shaped by the work of growing aromatic plants in a Scottish climate.
The farm grows lavender and lavandin. Its range includes essential oils, handmade soap and room sprays, while the Middleshade perfume collection takes inspiration from Scottish landscapes, stories and poetry.
What happens on the farm?
- Summer colour: seasonal visits let people walk among the flowering rows and see the farm beside Loch Leven.
- A look behind the fragrance: guided tours explain the plants and the distillery. The still operates during the harvest period; at other times the tour explains the equipment and process.
- Something to take home: the farm shop and online range include lavender products and perfumes.
Plan a seasonal visit
The farm opens to visitors for a limited summer season. Its visitor page currently says the 2026 season has ended, with the next visiting season in summer 2027. Use the official page for dates, tickets, access information and the farm’s pet policy.
The online shop operates throughout the year, so you can explore their products even when the flowering fields are closed to visitors.
